1910 Historic Dinner Benefit

April 27 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

1910 Historic Dinner Benefit

Step back to the year 1910 at our 13th Annual Historic Dinner Benefit! Support the Monadnock Center’s 60+ programs and events while you enjoy a delicious meal made from 1910 recipes and learn about dining and cooking at the dawn of the 20th century. After dinner, a recital of Edward MacDowell compositions will transport you back to 1910 when the MacDowell Colony staged The Peterborough Pageant.

The 1910 Menu

Our evening begins with a wine reception in our exhibit rooms and then guests will be seated in Bass Hall for the dinner. The meal opens with Graham Bread and a relish tray of celery, radishes, and pickled carrots followed by Pink Velvet Soup. The entrees are roasted stuffed pork tenderloin with cranberry gravy or Haddock a la Crème with baked butternut squash with apples, pickled beets, and Perfection Salad. For dessert, guests will enjoy Black Pepper Pound Cake with coffee or tea.

The Peterborough Pageant of 1910

This year’s 1910 theme complements our special exhibit, “All Roads Lead to Peterborough”: The Peterborough Pageant 1910 & 1919. In 1910, Marian MacDowell engaged the local community to stage an outdoor pageant that celebrated the history of the community set to music composed by her late husband Edward MacDowell. The pageant featured over 200 local people for three performances on the MacDowell Colony grounds. The pageant attracted an audience of thousands and was an important milestone in the pageant movement that swept the United States in the early 20th century. The Colony reprised the pageant in 1919 following World War I.

The evening’s recital includes selections from MacDowell’s Woodland Sketches written in his Log Cabin at the MacDowell Colony.
