Community Conversations: Substance Use in the Monadnock Region – Can We Talk About It?

May 12, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

May2We live in a wonderful place, yet increasing numbers of our residents are sucked into a path of drug use and addiction that drains the potential for living a productive life. Can we change course by changing the way we are thinking and talking about drugs?  Are there fundamental issues in our values our society that create fertile ground for drug abuse, including legal drugs? This Conversation starts with some different perspectives that will help re-define the issue, and we’ll look to all participants for steps we can take, individually, and as a community, to push back the impact of drugs.

Panelists for this program include:

Bonnie Harris ~ Director Connective Parenting, The River Center, Peterborough

Susan Cullinane  ~ mother of a recovering addict

Tom Davison ~ a person in long-term recovery

Alisha Birk ~ ConVal student

Maryssa Williams ~ ConVal student

After short presentations from each of the panelists, the floor will be open to moderated conversation.

Community Conversations is a series that explores many of the issues impacting our communities. A partnership between the Monadnock Center for History and Culture and the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript, each Conversation opens with short presentations from local experts on the chosen topic. Some issues are global in nature, but each conversation is designed to examine the topic from a local perspective. The program provides residents with the opportunity to learn more about key issues impacting their communities, to engage in a civil dialog with speakers and with each other, and to come away with a sense that there are things that individuals and communities can do to foster change and improvement.

Community Conversations are held in Bass Hall at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture, 19 Grove St., in Peterborough.  The program is free and open to all.

Community Conversations are proudly sponsored by:
