Hearth Cooking: Preserving the Harvest

September 23 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Our fall hearth cooking programs open with a look at the many ways Mrs. Prescott preserved the harvest in the 1830s. Join us for this open house program for samples of authentic dishes prepared over the open hearth and learn about food preservation from drying to pickling.

Guests are invited to drop in between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Stay for just a few minutes or longer enjoying conversation by the fire.

This program is presented in the Phoenix Mill House, a 19th century millworker’s home located on the grounds on the Monadnock Center. Our costumed presenters are Samuel and Nancy Prescott, a couple who lived in the mill house in the 1830s when Samuel was an overseer at the Phoenix Mill.

Hearth Cooking Saturday is free with museum admission ($3/ free for member and children). Museum admission includes our special exhibit, 1917: Looking Back 100 Years.
