Hearth Cooking Saturday: 19th Century Christmas Treats

December 16 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Event Navigation

Step away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season to a simpler time. Our Christmas Hearth Cooking Saturday features holiday recipes cooked over the open fire in the Phoenix Mill House. Join us for samples and to learn about what Christmas was like in the 1830s.

The day’s menu includes Tattie Scones, root vegetable and ham soup, Plum Pudding with nutmeg sauce, Early American Christmas cookies, English Gingerbread, and carrot pie.

Our costumed interpreters, Samuel and Nancy Prescott, will share Christmas traditions and tell you about daily life in their home, a foreman’s home for the Phoenix Mill. The Phoenix Mill House is located directly behind our main building (19 Grove Street, Peterborough).

Hearth Cooking Saturday is free with museum admission ($3/ free for members and children under 12).
