Historic Dinner: Celebrating the 1718 Scotch-Irish Migration

April 28 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Travel back 300 years and enjoy the tastes and sounds of 1718 at our annual Historic Dinner! In 1718, five ships left Ulster filled with Scotch-Irish immigrants who would settle in New England. Learn the story of these early immigrants to the New England colonies and their impact on Northern New England and the Monadnock Region.

The evening features a meal created from period Scotch and Irish recipes followed by a program of 18th century songs performed on flute and violin.

We begin with a wine reception in the Monadnock Center’s museum before moving to Bass Hall for the meal and entertainment. Dinner includes Irish soda bread, Scotch oatcakes with cheddar, golden soup, pork with sawmill gravy, Scotch pies, braised red cabbage, and colcannon. The meal finishes with Irish apple cake with custard sauce complemented by coffee or tea.

Fiddler Jane Orzechowski and flutist Sarah Bauhan will play a program of traditional Scotch-Irish music.

After dinner, flutist Sarah Bauhan and fiddler Jane Orzechowski will present a program of traditional songs and tunes from Scotland and Ireland.

The 1718 Historic Dinner fundraiser is generously sponsored by Charter Trust Co.
