Holiday Lights- Cookies & Cocoa in Bass Hall

December 2 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

A day of lights and cheer will kick off the holiday season in Peterborough on Saturday, December 2 with the town’s annual Holiday Lights event. Visitors will enjoy a variety of festivities happening throughout the day leading up to the town Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m.

This year, downtown businesses and organizations will be decorating their windows and storefronts in a friendly competition for best holiday display. A team of judges will make their rounds from December 1 through December 11 to select the winners. A special People’s Choice Award will be determined by votes cast on the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.

Families can explore downtown between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. while enjoying a Holiday Scavenger Hunt. The scavenger hunt can be picked up at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture, 19 Grove Street and returned to the Monadnock Center when completed. The first 200 successful hunters will receive a snowflake glow pendant.

The Great Holiday Cookie Contest sponsored by King Arthur Flour will take place at the Monadnock Center with judging of entries between 1 and 3 p.m. Awards will be presented in the Youth (17 and under) and Adult categories. Entries must be made from scratch (no mixes allowed) and must use at least one cup of King Arthur Flour. Contest application and complete rules are available on the Chamber of Commerce website at PeterboroughChamber.com.

At 4:30, the community is invited to warm up with homemade cookies and cocoa in Bass Hall at the Monadnock Center and enjoy caroling by the Girl Scouts. Santa will make a visit and give candy canes to all the good boys and girls. After enjoying seasonal treats, visitors can follow the path of luminaria along Grove Street to Putnam Park where the town Christmas tree will be lit at 6 p.m.

Holiday Lights is presented each year by the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, the Monadnock Center for History and Culture, the Town of Peterborough, and the North Pole.
