Lunch and Learn: A Tragic Civil War Love Story

February 14 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Kate Cummings and a tragic Civil War Love Story

Hear the tale of two couples caught up in the strife of the Civil War and learn their tragic fates at our February Lunch and Learn program. In this program, you will meet newlyweds Kate and John Cummings and Major William Scott and his wife Sophia. Scott and Cummings were members of the 6th New Hampshire who went to fight for the Union on Christmas Day 1861, leaving their wives behind in Peterborough. The following August, the women traveled to Washington to see their husbands. All of their lives were changed forever one fateful day on the Potomac River and only the intercession of President Lincoln himself could reunite the young lovers.

Lunch and Learn programs begin with a delicious lunch of assorted wrap sandwiches and a fresh salad. After lunch, guests enjoy a lively, illustrated talk over a light dessert with coffee or tea.

Seating is limited and reservations must be made in advance. To reserve your seat, purchase your ticket below or call us at (603) 924-3235.

L&L: 2/14/19
