Music in Bass Hall: The Apple Hill String Quartet
April 27, 2014 @ 3:00 pm

The Apple Hill String Quartet has earned accolades from around the world for their interpretive mastery of such traditional repertoire as Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven, and Ravel — along with their special dedication to seldom heard masterworks and contemporary music. They have performed concerts extensively throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia as part of Apple Hill’s innovative Playing for Peace™ program.
So it is a great honor to welcome the Apple Hill String Quartet back to Bass Hall (they last performed here in the fall of 2012). The quartet configuration is especially well-suited to the acoustical magic of Bass Hall; even regular fans of Apple Hill can expect to hear familiar players with a rare level of aural intimacy.
The program will include string quartets by Beethoven and Dvorak and the premiere of Crossroads by noted American composer John Harbison. Apple Hill is one of 15 arts organizations throughout the US that commissioned this work based on the poetry of Louise Glück. Mr. Harbison will speak briefly about the work.
The 2014 Season for Music in Bass Hall is sponsored by Waterhouse Restaurant in Depot Square, Peterborough. Concert goers are encouraged to enjoy dinner before the show (or brunch before our Sunday afternoon shows), or libations and snacks after the concert. For reservations call 603-924-4001
