Singer-Songwriter Cormac McCarthy opens the 2019 Music in Bass Hall concert series on January 26 at 7:30 p.m. The evening will feature songs from his latest album Collateral, a milestone recording in his notable career as a singer and a songwriter. Time and experience have drawn this talented artist to a new and compelling crossroad where fans will recognize his signature voice and rousing guitar but will also discover new and resonant themes. “Many of the songs on this album are a bit of a musical stretch for me,” says McCarthy. “R & B, ballads, gut bucket blues, German theater music, bluegrass and even a protest song.”

Not to be confused with the best-selling author who shares his name, McCarthy’s background in literature, his rural roots, and Cormac McCarthy, Singer-Songwriterhis knack for penning a great line would make some comparisons easy to draw. Born in Ohio but rooted in rural New England since the age of ten, McCarthy writes and sings of a heartfelt, sometimes funny, sometimes desperate, sometimes glorious world of common people, struggles, hope, relationships, madness, and love. He sings the poetry of real life with a silky baritone voice and just enough grit.

A veteran of the Newport Folk Festival and NPR’s Mountain Stage, McCarthy tours nationally sharing his delightful humor and performing his finely crafted songs. He has what The Boston Globe calls a “devastating wit and enormous writing gifts, capable of putting chills into your spine or a silly grin on your face.” Cormac’s songs reveal some of the magic of real life in a truthful, superbly literate style, delivered with a soulful baritone and a hot guitar.
