Music in Bass Hall: Virginia Eskin and Jose Lezcano

June 15 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join Virginia Eskin and Jose Lezcano for a trip around the world, in musical terms and an evening of elegant music that reflects our amazing times. The program will feature pieces by Telemann, Scarlatti, Brahms, Beach, Nino Rota, Piazolla and Lezcano with some rags thrown in for good measure!

Virginia Eskin, a Boston and New Hampshire resident, is an extremely versatile solo pianist, chamber player and lecturer, known for both standard classical repertoire and ragtime, and a long-time champion of the works of American and European women composers. She has championed and recorded music written by American composers (Edward MacDowell, Arthur Foote, George Chadwick, George Gershwin and many others); women composers such as Amy Beach, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Louise Talma, Marion Bauer, and Vítìzslava Kaprálová; and music written by composers who perished during the Holocaust. Virginia has also gained a reputation as a ragtime specialist and is a regular at the Scott Joplin Festival Ragtime Festival.

Guitarist Jose Lezcano plays original Latin-flavored compositions, and has composed four concertos for guitar, both solo and in duo combinations with orchestra accompaniment. He has premiered his works with professional orchestras in New York City, Ecuador, Peru, Cuba, Colombia, and New Hampshire.
Described by Fanfare Magazine as “an excellent guitarist as well as an imaginative composer,” Jose has earned numerous professional accolades, including two Grammy nominations, the NH State Council on the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship, twice NHMTA Composer of the Year, and a Fulbright Award to Ecuador where he performed as orchestral soloist and pursued research on indigenous guitar traditions.
