Rindge Meeting House Open Mic: John & Ursula Papp
June 13, 2014 @ 7:00 pm
Friday, June 13, 2014, 07:00 PM – 10:30 PM
In June, local favorites John & Ursula Papp will be returning to feature at the Meeting House Stage. The Papps met at a Folk Festival in the early 90’s and have been a duo ever since. They married in a Country and Western/Buddhist ceremony in 2002. John has been writing songs since he was in high school, and Ursula has been singing most of her life. Together they are like silk and sand. Well-versed in the folk tradition, they like to feature songs by such little-known songwriters as Dave Carter, David Francey, and a guy named Dylan. John’s own “Ballad of W.B. Harrison” is about a senior citizen from Jaffrey who is a tad rueful about the changes he’s seen.
A $5 donation is suggested to help support the Rindge Historical Society.
Coffee, tea, and an ever-changing variety of wonderful home-made food is available.
How it works: Doors open at 6:30 pm and music begins at about 7:00 pm. Performers are encouraged to sign up for one of the 15-minute slots. Sign-up is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Thinking about performing? Everybody is welcomed and encouraged to share their talents, but like anything in life, there are Rules.
Most months we will schedule a feature performer for a longer, 30-minute slot. Check out our Calendar to see who will be featured at our coffeehouse in the coming months.
Equipment: We have a small PA, four microphones, and two direct inputs for instruments that provide sound reinforcement. A nice old upright piano is available for use as well.
Dates: Usually held on the second Friday of each month. Consult the Calendar page to make sure the open mike is being held during any particular month. Occasionally we may need to move the date for a given month, depending on availability of the venue.
