Round the Mountain with Ken Sheldon

August 2, 2014 @ 7:30 pm

Round the Mountain logoRound the Mountain is a summer monthly program celebrating the Monadnock region. Hosted by Ken Sheldon, the show features humor, music, and interviews with artists, writers and other folks who make this a wonderful place to live. A regular feature called “From the Attic” highlights some of the fascinating items in the Center’s historical archives. Round the Mountain is designed to appeal to locals as well as visitors, giving them an overview of the area and what this part of New England is all about.

Special Guests
Paul Klemperer and the Paul Klemperer NH Ensemble

Paul Klemperer Born in Boston, Paul discovered jazz at an early age, sneaking into smoky clubs by age 13. He studied with jazz legends Archie Shepp, Max Roach and Ray Copeland before moving to Austin in 1982 where he worked with such blues greats as Marcia Ball and members of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Paul earned his master’s degree in Ethnomusicology at the University of Texas in 1991. He teaches private and group classes in clarinet & saxophone, jazz history & theory, and issues in music & culture.

Paul has produced three CD’s representing the three groups he leads: PK Sax(original jazz and world music), The Klemperer Group (acid jazz & experimental), and Manteca Beat (classic R&B and international cabaret). He has toured nationally and internationally for over 20 years, and continues to divide his time between Austin and the road, bringing his soulful sax sound across the U.S., Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Paul also has a life-long association with the Monadnock Region – his childhood summers were spent in Nelson, where his parents still retain a summer home. He has recently decided to spend more time each summer up here, and Round the Mountain is happy to be a beneficiary of this decision.

Paul’s NH Ensemble includes Max Nunnemaker, bass and saxophone; Spencer Peery, guitar; Gordon Peery, keyboard; and Joe Bartlett, drums.
