Smith’s Village Walking Tour: Peterborough 200 Years Ago

August 12, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Smith's Village - Charcoal Drawing of Bridge

Step back 200 years to the days of Smith’s Village in downtown Peterborough. In the early 19th century, Samuel Smith built a large mill in downtown and ushered in the Industrial age to this small New England town. Smith’s factory would be the first of many mills, shops, and businesses in the mill village known as Smith’s Village or Smithville. On this walking tour, we will learn about the businessmen and workers who built a thriving mill center and uncover some of the places and buildings that survive to the present time.

The walking tour will take approximately 90 minutes and will be held rain or shine. In the event of thunderstorms, the walking tour will be canceled. Participants meet at the Monadnock Center to begin the walk starting promptly at 10:30 a.m.

Smith’s Village Walking Tour is limited to 20 participants and admission is free. Registration is required.

Our 2023 Walking Tours are generously sponsored by Four Seasons- Sotheby’s International Realty.
