Timber!
June 19, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Timber! is the new special exhibit at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture that will be on view through the summer and fall of 2015. We invite you to join us for an opening reception on Friday June 19 from 5-7 p.m. and to be the first to see this new exhibit!
When European settlers arrived here in the 1730s and 1740s, they found a forested landscape that had been inhabited, shaped and used by Native Americans for thousands of years. The settlers quickly made their mark on the landscape by felling trees to build homes and farms. In the 19th century, the sheep boom and the rise of industry dramatically deforested our region but the decline in population in the later years of the 19th century allowed for regrowth. In the 20th century, the devastating Hurricane of 1938 and the rise of recreational use of the forests had different but profound impacts on the forests we see today.
Join us for a fascinating look at the changing face of our own backyard!
The opening is free and the public is welcome. Following the opening reception, stay around for a Music in Bass Hall Concert with David Surette and Susie Burke (more info).
