West Peterborough Walking Tour

September 21 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

West Peterborough Mill Village

Join us for a walking tour through West Peterborough. We will look at the evolution of this mill village and discuss the buildings, people, and businesses that shaped ‘the West’ from the early 19th century to the present. On the walk, we will see Peterborough’s only documented Underground Railroad site and learn about the abolitionist movement in the local area.  Hear the story of two men who came to Peterborough, one in the 1820s and the other in the 1920s, and how their hard work shaped the village as we know it today. The tour finishes up at the Green Grocer where we will discuss the West Peterborough mills and the devastating fire that destroyed most of the mill complex.

Meet at the West Peterborough Post Office at 301 Union Street. Please do not park in postal patron parking spaces.

The walking tour is free and open to the public. The tour will take approximately 90 minutes and will be held rain or shine. In the event of thunderstorms, we will reschedule the tour.

Our 2019 Walking Tours have been generously sponsored by The Petersons, Inc.
