The Monadnock Center for History and Culture is hosting a wine tasting event featuring the LaBelle Winery,  on Saturday, March 19.  Starting at 4:00, wines from LaBelle will be offered for sampling, along with selections of local cheeses. At 4:45 owner Amy LaBelle will make a presentation about winemaking in the northeast, and will also tell the intriguing story of how the LaBelle Winery came to me. Following this the floor will be open to questions and more socializing.

After practicing law for sixteen years Amy LaBelle had a life-changing experience that inspired her interest in making wine. Fast-forward a dozen years and she had learned the art and trade, and was opening her winery in Amherst, NH. She was named among the Remarkable Women of 2013 by New Hampshire Magazine. The winery has quickly established itself as one of the most vibrant and successful destination wineries in the northeast.

“We are very excited to have Amy LaBelle coming to the Monadnock Center” says executive director Michelle Stahl. “Her personal and business story is very compelling, and of course we are delighted to have such a fun activity as a wine tasting here at the Center”

More about Amy LaBelle
Amy is the founder of and winemaker at LaBelle Winery.  Formerly a corporate attorney practicing in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, her lifelong interest in wine led her to open LaBelle Winery to pursue her passion for winemaking.   As LaBelle Winery develops into a destination winery, Amy has slowly seen her dream realized: to focus full-time on making world-class wine right here in New Hampshire.
Amy grew up in Western Massachusetts, attended UMASS and Western New England College, graduating summa cum laude with a BA in English Literature, and then went on to earn a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Temple University in 1996.  Ever in love with fine food and wine, Amy built her legal practice and spent her free time dining at fine restaurants around the world and learning to cook.    Amy’s legal specialty is corporate law.  She worked for five years in private practice and several years in law firms in Boston and Manchester NH, eventually joining Fidelity Investments in 2001 as Senior Legal Counsel in Boston and Merrimack, and was promoted to Vice President and Associate General Counsel in 2005.
In 2001 while first working for Fidelity, Amy lived in Boston’s South End.    That summer, while vacationing in Nova Scotia, she visited a small winery and witnessed the making of blueberry wine. The sight, feel, smell of it all caused an A-Ha moment for Amy; in that moment her life’s dream was born! This is what Amy is meant to do. When she returned to Boston she walked over to Borders Bookstore and bought all the books she could find on winemaking, devouring them over the next few weeks.  And thus the journey began. For the next four years she experimented and educated herself, she took classes from a world- renowned wine and viticulture program at UC Davis in California, and she began to practice and perfect her craft, all the while dreaming the details of the winery she would build.   By 2005 Amy was ready to go commercial. She started her winery at Alyson’s Orchards in Walpole NH.   Amy sold out every season, at farmer’s markets, wine tastings and local stores, and began to achieve industry recognition, winning regional and international accolades and medals.  She doubled production each year and eventually built a barn behind her home in Amherst, NH to house the growing winery while she and her new husband, Cesar Arboleda, started a family. In 2008 Cesar left his day job to concentrate full time on the winery.  Two kids and thousands of gallons of wine later, she decided to take her next steps – to build the New LaBelle Winery on the former Bragdon Farm complete with vineyards, an event center, and state of the art winemaking facility.  She promised herself that she’d be making wine full time by the time her oldest son reached kindergarten. In July 2012 she ended her 12 year Fidelity career, in September her son started kindergarten and the following month, October 2012, she opened the doors of her dream winery.
