June E-News- What Comes Next?

What Comes Next?

The pandemic has taken a terrible toll in lives lost, illness, and economic hardship. All of us are wondering what comes next? Since closing to the public in March, the Monadnock Center’s leadership has been working on our plans for what comes next.

The Monadnock Center is an event-driven organization. All of our earned revenues (program fees, concert tickets, museum admissions, etc.) have been wiped out. It will be a long road before those revenues return to pre-pandemic levels. We have been able to obtain a Payroll Protection Loan and a CARES Act Humanities grant. These funds are helping us to carry on but will be depleted by the end of the summer.

Fundraising and Membership
Thank you for your membership support and your donations! We were not able to hold our Annual Historic Dinner in April. We don’t know if our Fall Benefit can be held this year. Your membership support is more critical than ever and we are grateful to all of our 400+ members for their ongoing commitment to the Monadnock Center.

NH Gives- June 9-10NH Gives Logo
NH Gives is a 24 -hour statewide giving marathon happening June 9 at 6 p.m. through June 10 at 6 p.m. We have a $5,000 Matching Gift Challenge and the NH Charitable Foundation is matching all donations (up to $1,000). With these two matching gifts, your donation is TRIPLED!
The NH Charitable match ends when their fund of $250,000 is expended- so we urge you to make a gift at 6 p.m. on June 9 before the money runs out!

Re-opening Plans
We anxiously awaiting Governor Sununu’s re-opening guidelines for museums that are expected to be released soon. In the meantime, we are developing our re-opening plan with new procedures and policies to insure the health and safety of our volunteers, guests and staff. At this point, we will remain closed to the public through June 27. The staff is working remotely and can be reached by email at director@nullMonadnockCenter.org.

Summer Programs and Events
This summer we will focus on outdoor activities. We will have our walking tour series and hope to be able to host our 11th Annual Fairy House Day for families. In addition, our Phoenix Mill House family is making plans for some outdoor demonstrations and activities to take the place of our hearth cooking days. We won’t be able to announce dates for the programs until the State guidelines are released. Stay tuned!

The Virtual Monadnock Center
We now have a variety of online offerings including new videos, two blog series, and more. We have moved our Lunch & Learn series to a video format and plan to release Lunch & Learn videos until the time when we can get together in Bass Hall again! As new online offerings become available, we will let you know by email and social media posts.

Moving Forward
We don’t know what the future will bring. But we know that the Monadnock Center will adjust and adapt to whatever the future may be. If this difficult time can teach us anything, it is the value of community and connection- the very things that are at the heart of the Monadnock Center.

We can’t wait to welcome you back!
Michelle Stahl, Executive Director
